Is Nigel Mansell to drive in the 2010 British Grand Prix?
BBC Sport have published an interesting article on their website today (Sunday 7th March, 2010) where they had interviewed Nigel Mansell about the upcoming 2010 season. The interview was about Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button and how they will do this season but at the end of the article there was something a lot more interesting!
Nigel Mansell was dropping a hint that he could return to Formula 1. If he was to do this then he would make history as the oldest Formula 1 driver to take part in the World Championship. Nigel Mansell is currently racing in the Le Mans series with his son Greg and is still in great shape. The Le Mans cars pull four to four and half G’s which is quite close the forces that modern Formula 1 cars produce.
When asked about a return to Formula 1 Nigel said: “Never say die”. He also went on to say that if there was a good Formula 1 seat “who knows?”.
With the comeback of Michael Schumacher I imagine that a lot of ex-Formula 1 drivers now think they could get a drive. Nigel has been racing ever since leaving Formula 1, from Indy Car to the British Touring Car Championship. With all the new teams joining the Formula 1 circus this year there could perhaps be room for an extra driver at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Maybe Nigel knows something we don’t?
